The world's first reinforced concrete bridge

Joseph Monier deposited in 1867, in Paris, several patents in the field of reinforced iron, including one for "a system of mobile iron and cement basins applicable to horticulture".

On August 13, 1873, Joseph Monier filed an addendum to his 1867 patent entitled "Application to the construction of bridges and walkways of all sizes".

In 1875, at the request of the owner of the Château de Chazelet, the architect Alfred Dauvergne asked Joseph Monier to design and build a reinforced concrete bridge to cross the castle's moats.

With a length of 13.80 m and a width of 4.25 m, this bridge is the first reinforced concrete bridge in the world and is registered in theadditional inventory of historic monuments.
